2019 was second-hottest year on record, climate change to blame: WMO Updated: 2020-01-16 16:43:07 KST

The World Meteorological Organization says 2019 was the second-hottest year since records began.
The agency said the average global temperature last year was 1.1 degrees Celsius higher than pre-industrial levels, mostly because of climate change.
It also expects to see much more extreme weather this year and in the coming decades due to record levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
It added that extreme weather has caused disasters around the globe, including the bushfires in Australia which is enduring its driest year ever.
