Trump demanded S. Korea up defense cost-sharing five-fold: CNN Updated: 2020-08-12 06:01:28 KST

The White House has reportedly instructed the U.S. negotiation team to imply that President Trump could withdraw some American troops from South Korea in light of their deadlocked defense cost negotiations.
The CNN report on Tuesday also noted that President Trump demanded South Korea increase its share of defense costs five-fold, and when South Korean officials hesitated, the U.S. negotiators walked out.
Around four-thousand troops are said to be part of the reported plan, which would be a one-seventh reduction.
In the most recent negotiations, South Korea offered a 13-percent hike, which was rejected with Washington demanding 50-percent.
