The IMF's warning comes amid global supply chain bottlenecks that are driving prices up and threatening to derail the economic recovery.
The IMF added that central banks need to act appropriately if inflation risks become concrete.
The language was toned down from an earlier draft statement that called for central banks to be ready to take (quote) "decisive actions to maintain price stability."
