South Korea's National Assembly speaker Park Byeong-seug has asked the World Health Organization to choose the country as the host for a global vaccine talent development hub.
On Tuesday, Speaker Park met with WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at its headquarters in Geneva and said the country is a perfect choice as it already has the infrastructure to provide education and nurture talents for developing and producing vaccines.
In response, the WHO chief said the country is a strong candidate with the final decision expected early next year.
The two also discussed humanitarian support for North Korea as the WHO chief said public health is a bridge to peace and that he intends on visiting the South and North in one trip.
