As the world adjusts to the new reality of life under social distancing, the healing power of art is cherished more than ever as an emotional escape. In line with the changing world, a growing number of artists and artistic institutions present online concent to some cultural joy during these trying time, with one being the Gwanak Foundation for Arts & Culture.
In collaboration of Korea’s top-notch dancers, including Kim Seol-jin, the foundation recently launched a project called “Story in Gwanak,” which keeps a memory of Gwanak-gu through dance. By turning every mobile device into a dance theater, it brings cultural light into everyone’s life. Let’s learn more about “Story in Gwanak.”

Amid the waves of provincial promotions, there is one region that is garnering extra attention through its popular Youtube video. In Yeoju, Gyeonggi-do Province, city hall public servants are in charge of creating fun Youtube videos to promote the regional economy and city’s image. One of their videos, made as a fun parody of the sensational ‘Gang’ choreography, has topped one million views. The main dancer of the video and one of the public servants in his typical days, Lee Jae-hyun, has become a star of the town. Ahn Jung-hyun, the mastermind behind the creation of the videos, says he wishes to establish a strong brand of Yeoju for people who don’t know about his hometown yet. This week, we talk with public workers in Yeoju city who tell us their promotion secrets and their love of their hometown.

Halloween is a festival where people celebrate by wearing various costumes across the United States. Every October 31st, people here in Korea also come out of the streets disguised as zombies, monsters, ghosts, and witches to enjoy the annual event. As opposed to the conventional way of putting makeup directly on their face, people in Everland’s ‘Alter Ego Salon’ have put together a new makeup method, using a special silicone mask to make sure everyone stays safe amid COVID-19.
