The Toronto Blue Jays have officially signed star pitcher Ryu Hyun-Jin to a four-year contract worth 80 million U.S. dollars.
The South Korean left-hander will be tasked with helping the Blue Jays turn the corner, a team that remains relatively young and untested.
During an introduction attended by Ryu's team and his agent on Friday, local time, at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ryu said the team thought of him first from start to finish and that he wanted to keep improving by training with and competing against great athletes in Toronto.
Ryu will continue to wear his signature Number 99 for the Blue Jays the same number he has worn throughout his six-year career in the MLB.
The 32-year-old led the Major Leagues with a 2.3-2 earned-run average last season after a standout season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
However, Ryu's frequent injuries dented his legacy in LA, forcing him to miss all of 2015 and pitched just once in 2016.
