The total amount of unemployment benefits paid out last year by the South Korean government reached an all-time high after the Moon administration expanded the program.
According to the labor ministry, monthly payments made last year amounted to about just under seven billion dollars, up more than 25 percent on year.
These payments go to people who have lost their job and have paid into state employment insurance.
The Moon administration has expanded eligibility for the insurance, so the number of subscribers last year rose by nearly four percent.
