It's a busy day on the diplomatic front for South Korea.
Seoul's Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and her U.S. counterpart Mike Pompeo will hold talks Tuesday in San Francisco to discuss denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula as well as Middle East tensions.
There's speculation Washington may ask Seoul to join a U.S.-led initiative to safeguard the Strait of Hormuz near Iran.
Prior to her departure, Kang said that matter is under review and she will listen to what Pompeo has to say.
And in Washington on Tuesday, South Korea and the U.S. will be holding a fresh round of negotiations on defense cost-sharing.
The two sides failed to reach an agreement before the previous deal expired last year -- due to their deep differences over the cost and scope of their new deal.
Speaking to reporters prior to his departure, Seoul's chief negotiator Jeong Eun-bo said the allies have made some progress and vowed to strike a deal at the earliest date possible.
