Newly appointed PM promises to boost local economy

South Korea's new prime minister, a six-term lawmaker Chung Sye-kyun, promised to boost the economy and seek cooperation with the National Assembly.
Speaking during his inauguration ceremony shortly after his official appointment at the top office, the incoming prime minister said he will focus on economic revitalization, starting with private businesses.

"The driving force to revitalize the economy starts from businesses. The government will pursue innovation so that companies can challenge themselves instead of becoming complacent."

He added that the government aims to become an administration that can support the people, and work towards minimizing uncertainty through bold regulatory reforms on new industries.
Chung has previously served as head of the ruling party and as National Assembly speaker,. and replaces Korea's longest serving PM, Lee Nak-yon.
President Moon, during his new year's presser today, said he would give the new PM a greater authority and administrative role.
