S. Korea will follow international consent when dealing with N. Korea: Seoul envoy
Updated: 2020-01-16 07:02:53 KST
South Korea's nuclear envoy says candid conversations and mutual understanding with the U.S are the key to one day enable South Koreans to travel to North Korea individually.
On his way to meet his American counterpart Stephen Biegun in Washington on Wednesday to discuss possible next steps, Lee Do-hoon stressed that individual trips would not violate UN Security Council sanctions and can be worked on by the two Koreas, regardless of the U.S. position.
However, he stressed Seoul's decision to coordinate with the U.S. shows its will to respect pre-existing international consent.
He said there are many issues to be discussed and both sides require the North's cooperation.
