Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has announced that his government is resigning to pave the way for President Putin to carry out his constitutional change.
The prime minister submitted resignation on Wednesday shortly after Putin announced his plan to shift some power between the presidency and parliament.
In televised remarks, Putin said Medvedev will take up a new position as a deputy head of the presidential Security Council.
The Kremlin said Russia's tax service chief Mikhail Mishustin has been appointed as the new prime minister.
Some watchers say the move is designed to allow Putin to extend his rule of Russia.
