The chief executive of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics says the planned Olympic Games for next year will "not be done with grand splendor", as organizers announced they're working on more than 200 ideas to simplify and reduce costs.
Speaking at a news conference Wednesday, Toshio Muto revealed that the organizers have not ruled out reducing the number of fans, but the competition schedule remains unchanged for now.
He also stressed that ensuring the health and safety of the athletes and spectators is their top priority.
The 2020 Games in Tokyo were set to start at the end of July, but it was postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
