The UN Security Council Sanctions Committee on North Korea has sped up the process of sanction exemptions approval for humanitarian aid to the North in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Voice of America reports that the committee has cut the approval process to two days and the exemption permit period has been extended from six months to a year.
The committee also reiterated that the sanctions are not aimed at harming the living conditions of ordinary people in North Korea.
The committee approved 64 exemptions for the North in June, all related to humanitarian aid.
