South Korean trade minister Yoo Myung-hee, who is running for the top job at the World Trade Organization, says her goal is to make the WTO a more relevant, resilient and responsive world body, if she is approved as Director-General.
Speaking to reporters in Geneva shortly after her arrival on Sunday, Yoo said she will reform and restore the organization's core function in handling disputes.
And she added that this is what Japan, a country with which South Korea is involved in a trade dispute, might want as well.
Here she is before her departure on Sunday.
"Japan, as well as many other member nations, will agree on strengthening the WTO system to overcome crisis amid the multilateral trading system."
A total of eight candidates, including Yoo, will explain their views to the WTO's board members, and then the WTO starts its process to choose one of them on September 7th.
