Germany's ministers for foreign affairs and sports will not attend the Beijing Winter Olympics in February.
Germany's foreign ministry spokesperson told Reuters on Wednesday that Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock would "definitely not visit China for the Olympics".
The spokesperson added that the decision is personal, and not the official line of the government.
Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, who is responsible for sports, also will not be present at the event, partly because of the pandemic, according to her spokesperson.
This comes as the U.S. earlier this month announced a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Olympics, over concerns about human rights abuses in China.
