WHO mulls designating monkeypox outbreak as global health emergency

The World Health Organization has convened an emergency meeting to discuss whether to declare monkeypox a global health emergency.
This would give the virus the same distinction as COVID-19 and ongoing global efforts to eradicate polio.
The WHO does not expect to announce any decision before Friday, local time.
To date, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed over 33-hundred cases of monkeypox in 42 countries where the virus isn't typically found.
Eighty percent of those were in Europe.
