Proportion of untraceable cases hits record high of 28.1% in S. Korea Updated: 2020-09-19 15:38:26 KST

South Korea reported 110 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, a slightly lower number than the previous day.
But health authorities remain alert, as the proportion of cases with unidentified epidemiological links has reached a new record high.

The percentage of COVID-19 cases with uncertain epidemiological routes over the past two weeks hit a new record high on Saturday.
530 out of 1,883 newly confirmed cases reported in the two weeks since September 6th had unidentified transmission routes.
That's 28.one percent of the cases, meaning three out of 10 patients that were recently confirmed have no clear virus routes.
This is the highest percentage since the health authorities began releasing the numbers in April.
The proportion of patients whose infection routes are unidentified has been on a gradual rise, marking record-breaking percentages almost daily.
"The proportion of cases with no known infection routes in the past two weeks has recently been increasing. We'll focus more on cutting off virus transmission links, by quickly tracking down and identifying the infection routes of these cases, especially in the greater Seoul area."
Meanwhile, South Korea reported 110 new virus cases on Saturday, bringing the total caseload to 22,893.
The number of daily infections has stayed in the one-hundreds for 17 days in a row now.
110 cases is a slight drop from the previous day, but 1-hundred-6 were local transmissions, marking the fourth consecutive day local infections stayed above one hundred.
The greater Seoul area accounted for most of the new cases, Seoul, Gyeonggi-do Province, and Incheon city saw a combined number of 90 cases.
One new death was reported, bringing the death toll to 378.
Local health authorities continue to warn against traveling during the Chuseok holiday starting late September.
