The U.S. has called a meeting of the UN Security Council on North Korea, after the regime conducted four missile tests in the space of three weeks.
Citing an unnamed source, AFP reported a closed-door meeting is expected to take place on Thursday, adding that countries including Albania, Britain, France, Ireland and Mexico had expressed support .
The U.S. says it continues to take North Korea's missile program "very seriously".
Asked if Washington is downplaying the North's recent moves, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said Tuesday that the U.S. has tangible commitments to the defense of South Korea and the launches are violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
He did not elaborate on specific details of the latest launch.
