The UN special rapporteur on the human rights situation in North Korea, ( )Tomas Ojea Quintana has said North Korean defectors in China could face serious human rights violations upon repatriation.
In his report that he plans to present to the UN Human Rights Council on Monday, he said about 1,500 North Koreans are detained in China as "illegal migrants".
They are at risk of being sent back to the North once the border reopens.
The special rapporteur stressed that the principle of '( )non-refoulement' where nobody is returned to a country where they face torture and ill-treatment should be applied to them.
