North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's sister, Kim Yo-jong, has warned South Korea that it could face "serious threats" in response to comments by Seoul's defense minister, Suh Wook, about "preemptive strike" capabilities.
In a statement released Sunday by the North's state media, Kim called Suh "senseless" and "insane" for mentioning that South Korea is capable of carrying out accurate and rapid strikes on sites like the one where the North launched a missile earlier in the week.
This is the first such statement directed toward the South from Kim Yo-jong in about a year.
Experts say the North is trying to create a confrontation with the South and to get the upper hand in inter-Korean relations ahead of the upcoming change of government.
