A wildfire in the eastern county of Uljin that started to burn around noon yesterday. was finally extinguished this morning as of 11:40 AM.
The head of the Korea Forest Service said in a press briefing that the fire was put out in just one day through the efforts of some 15-hundred firefighters with the support of three dozen helicopters and troops from the military.
The wildfire damaged an area of around 145 hectares, which is about the size of 200 football fields.
No casualties have been reported, but nine buildings, including a temple, have been destroyed.
The authorities say the cause of the fire was likely a spark from welding at a construction site.
