S. Korean President, senior officials discuss N. Korea issues Updated: 2021-09-16 05:57:08 KST

Meeting in Seoul with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, President Moon Jae-in called for China's unwavering support for denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Moon held talks on Wednesday with China's top diplomat at the Blue House, where he vowed continued efforts along with the international community, including Beijing.

"I hope for China's unwavering support, and ask for Minister Wang to help in the development of Seoul-Beijing ties and to back my government's efforts for denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula."

The top office said Moon promised South Korea's support for a successful Beijing Winter Olympics early next year, and said he hopes the Games are an opportunity to develop ties with North Korea like the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.
Moon also highlighted the need to continue bilateral exchanges despite the pandemic, while Wang pledged continued communication to arrange a visit to South Korea by Chinese President Xi Jinping when conditions allow.

Wang also met on Wednesday his South Korean counterpart Chung Eui-yong.
Their discussions reportedly included North Korea's firing of ballistic missiles earlier the same day.
Sources say they commented that such actions do not help improve inter-Korean ties.
Wang reportedly said related countries should refrain from creating a "vicious cycle" surrounding the Korean Peninsula.
They agreed to closely work for the Korean Peninsula peace process, including possible humanitarian aid for the North.

During their meeting, the South Korean foreign minister has requested China's cooperation in the culture sector, including games, movies and K-pop.
This comes as China tightens its control over the culture industry, also targeting Chinese fan clubs of K-pop stars, including BTS.
They also agreed to work together on economy, environment and the pandemic, as they look toward marking 30 years of diplomatic relationship in 2022.
