S. Korea's new virus cases back below 3,000 on Sunday, still 2nd highest on record Updated: 2021-09-26 14:56:17 KST

South Korea on Sunday saw the number of newly reported coronavirus cases fall back below three thousand, but it was still the second-highest number on record at 2,2-hundred-71.
The day before it was at nearly 33-hundred.
The authorities have not yet announced any major changes to the distancing rules on that basis, a rise in cases having been expected following the Chuseok thanksgiving holiday that ended this past week, when tens of millions of people traveled across the country.
As of Sunday, just over 74 percent of the population have gotten at least one vaccine dose, and more than 45 percent are vaccinated fully.
The director of the KDCA, Jeong Eun-kyeong, said on Saturday, asked about social distancing, that the authorities will watch the virus trends in the coming weeks before they decide on tightening the rules.
