Italy's third vote for president seen failing with parties at loggerheads Updated: 2022-01-27 06:12:08 KST

Italy's political parties held a third round of voting on Wednesday, to elect a new head of state, but parties are at loggerheads over a mutually acceptable candidate.
The race for the seven-year role as the president of Italy is still wide open, as neither the center-right nor the center-left bloc have enough votes to carry their candidates.
The on-going deadlock comes as the majority of the one, nine lawmakers and regional delegates casted blank ballots on the first two days, in a bid to buy time while negotiations continue.
A candidate needs a two-thirds majority in any of the first three rounds of voting.
