Ki Sung-yueng named new FC Seoul captain, Im Sung-jae ties for 5th first PGA tournament of 2021 Updated: 2021-01-11 15:30:28 KST

Time now for 'This Week in Sports' and for that we have our sports editor Paul Neat joining us in the studio.
Paul, former Korean national football team captain Ki Sung-yueng will don the armband once again, this time in K League?

Yes, that’s right. FC Seoul have a new captain and it’s none other than Ki Sung-yueng.
With preparations underway for the forthcoming season, FC Seoul on Saturday made two announcements.
The first was to say that Ki has been named as the club's new captain.
FC Seoul endured a tough time last year, finishing 9th and so Ki will be expected to lead them back into the top half.
Ki returned to K League last July after 11 years in Europe but injury has restricted him to just five appearancesall from the bench.
He played 110 times for his countryincluding 49 as captain between 2014 and 2019.

The other news was that current Korean international forward Na Sang-ho has returned to K Leaguesigning with FC Seoul after a two-year spell with FC Tokyo.
Na has penned a three-year deal after impressing at Seongnam on loan last yearhelping the Magpies avoid relegation from K League 1 after scoring seven goals in 19 appearances.

Sticking with football for the moment, I understand that another Korean international forward, Hwang Hee-chan, has made a long-awaited return after contracting COVID-19 last year?

Yes, that’s right.
Hwang Hee-chan was one of 10 people involved in the Korean national team to contract the virus.
In November the Taeguk Warriors played two friendlies… the first full internationals in nearly a year because of the pandemic.
But, a number of players and staff were found to have contracted COVID-19Hwang Hee-chan being one of them.
His symptoms were said to be quite severe… to the point where Hwang was ruled out for the rest of 2020.
But, on Saturday, in RB Leipzig’s 3-1 Bundesliga defeat to Borussia Dortmund, Hwang came off the bench in the 71st minute.
His last appearance for Leipzig was on 7th November.

Switching to baseball nowit seems as though we will have just one South Korean star make the switch from KBO to MLB this year?

Yes, that’s right.
Kim Ha-seong signed for the San Diego Padres but he wasn’t the only Korean star to be posted to MLB.
NC Dinos slugger Na Sung-bum was also posted but was unable to find a deal and so will now return to KBO.
The deadline was 5 PM Saturday Eastern Standard Time, or 7 AM Sunday in South Korea.
Na had a strong 2020 season, winning the KBO regular season and Korean Series for the Dinoshitting 34 home runs, 112 RBIs and scoring 115 runs.

And finally, to golf. In the first PGA tournament of the new year, South Korea star Im Sung-jae put in a strong performance?

Yes, he did. Overall, Im finished joint 5th in the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.
Thanks to a late flurry of birdies, Im shot a four-under 69 in the final round for a four-round total of 21-under 271.
It was Im’s second top 10 finish of the 2020-2021 season.
The tournament is an event for champions, which involves 42 golfers including the winners of last year’s tour, and participants of the Tour Championship, the final event of the previous season.
Im Sung-jae took part for winning the Honda Classic in March last year.

Thank-you for that, Paul. We shall see you next week.
