North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged verbal messages on Monday, pledging to further develop bilateral ties.
According to China's state-run Xinhua News Agency, Kim told Xi that the North wants to bolster relations with Beijing.
Kim added that their friendly ties will be developed in line with their fundamental interests and wishes.
In response, President Xi told Kim that China will uphold a political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue, while noting that Beijing wants to make efforts for a solid development of relations with the North.
The messages were exchanged at a meeting in Beijing between a senior Chinese diplomat and North Korea's new ambassador to China.
