N. Korea will not participate at Tokyo Olympics over concerns for athletes' safety Updated: 2021-04-06 09:23:32 KST

North Korea won't be on the list of countries taking part in this year's Tokyo Olympics.
Pyeongyang announced the news on its sports website on Tuesday stating it will not participate in the upcoming summer games to protect its athletes against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision was made during a general assembly meeting of the North's Olympic Committee held in late March, where they also discussed practical issues for developing North Korean athletes and their skills.
The delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics is set to be held this July, but without foreign spectators due to the pandemic.
