The chief nuclear envoys of the U.S. and China met in Washington for discussions on North Korea following earlier nuclear talks between South Korea and the U.S.
According to the U.S. State Department on Tuesday, U.S. envoy Sung Kim and his Chinese counterpart Liu Xiaoming discussed denuclearization and ways to encourage North Korea to engage in dialogue.
Kim condemned Pyeongyang's recent ICBM launch and reiterated the importance of a firm response.
At the same time, he reaffirmed Washington's willingness for "serious and sustained diplomacy" with North Korea.
Ahead of the meeting, the Chinese envoy met the UN ambassadors from South Korea, the U.S. and Russia in New York and discussed Korean Peninsula affairs.
