U.S. President Joe Biden will reaffirm Washington’s commitment to the defense of South Korea and Japan during a visit to the two countries later this month.
White House spokesperson Jen Psaki said in a briefing on Thursday that U.S. commitments, including on extended deterrence, remain ironclad.
Biden will sit down for talks with the leaders of Seoul and Japan to discuss their common challenges and tasks, among them strengthening security alliances and coping with the pandemic.
Pointing out Pyeongyang's continuous activities has caused instability in the region, Psaki added North Korea issues will also be on the agenda.
Seoul's President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol and Biden are set to hold their first summit in Seoul on May 21st.
