The U.S. Senate has unanimously approved the nomination of Philip Goldberg as new U.S. ambassador to South Korea during a plenary session on Thursday.
It's expected that he will soon be officially appointed by President Joe Biden to replace Harry Harris, who stepped down in January last year when Biden took office.
Goldberg, a career ambassador, is currently serving as ambassador to Colombia and has served in the same role in the Philippines and Bolivia.
He was previously the coordinator for the implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1874 on North Korea sanctions during the Barack Obama administration.
