S. Korea reports 9,975 new COVID-19 infections on Monday Updated: 2022-05-23 17:07:19 KST

South Korea on Monday reported 9,9-hundred-75 new COVID-19 infections.
It's the first time in 1-hundred-18 days that the figure has dropped below ten thousand.
Compared to the previous day's tally, the figure is down more than 9-thousand.
And the figure is a drop of more than 3-thousand from a week ago.
There were 22 related deaths.

Meanwhile starting Monday, visitors to South Korea from abroad must submit rapid antigen test results taken within 24 hours of arrival.
Previously, only PCR test results taken within 48 hours of arrival were accepted.
The measure will provide more convenience for travelers arriving in South Korea as in certain regions rapid antigen tests have replaced PCR tests.
It would also reduce the financial burden of such tests.
Rapid antigen tests must have been administered by medical professionals, though and results from self-test kits are not accepted.

Also starting Monday, health authorities have decided to extend the period allowing visits to nursing homes.
Temporary measures introduced previously allowing visits to nursing homes expired on Sunday.
The new rules allow visits for an unspecified period of time, while related restrictions have also been eased.
Those not vaccinated for health reasons, such as due to adverse reactions to shots are now allowed to visit.
However, they will need to submit a doctor's note to explain their condition.
Before, visitors and nursing home residents being visited both had to be either fully vaccinated OR have been recently infected with COVID-19and have recovered.
But updated rules mean that medical professionals and the nursing home's administration can make a decision on whether or not to allow visitors depending on the individual's health condition.
Visits to nursing homes were banned starting November 2021, but reinstated from April 30thamid a downward trend in COVID-19 infections.
