S. Korean, U.S. special envoys meet in Washington to discuss N. Korean cyber threat Updated: 2022-08-10 17:20:24 KST

South Korea and the United States held a meeting in Washington on Tuesday of their special envoys for North Korea issuesto discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation against Pyeongyang's cyber threats.
According to the U.S. State Department, South Korea's Director General for North Korean Nuclear Affairs, Lee Tae-woo, and his American counterpart Jung Pak focused on strategies to combat the North's ongoing attempts to generate revenue for its weapons programs through "malicious cyber activity."
Their meeting came a day after the U.S. slapped sanctions on a so-called cryptocurrency mixer for allegedly laundering virtual currency stolen by Lazarus, a North Korean hacker group.
South Korea's Foreign Ministry said the allies will continue their discussions in Seoul in a second meeting later this year.
