Death toll from record rainfall in S. Korea's central region rises to 12 Updated: 2022-08-12 09:08:11 KST

The death toll from the record downpours that flooded homes and roads in South Korea's central region, has risen to at least twelve people.

According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, 18 people were injured while 7 are still missing.
Nearly 5-thousand people, mostly in the greater Seoul area, were forced to evacuate their homes due to the adverse conditions.
Almost 9 square kilometers of farmland, equal to over one thousand six hundred football fields, were also submerged.
Jeolla-do Provinces are expected to see rainfall of up to 50 millimeters until Friday morning, while up to 40 millimeters of rain is forecast for Chungcheong-do, and Gyeongsang-do Provinces and Jeju Island.
