The United States says it's ready to hold talks with North Korea.
During a press briefing over the phone on Wednesday, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said the recent appointment of Sung Kim as special representative for North Korea was "another signal" that the U.S. is prepared to sit down with the North.
She said she hopes Pyeongyang takes the U.S. up on the offer.
She also reiterated that the Biden administration has made its North Korea policy "known" to the regime.
However, it remains unclear if she meant that North Korea had been informed through a third-party or that the U.S. had made direct contact.
