British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced Monday.. that COVID-19 restrictions in the UK will be extended by another four weeks because the so-called Delta variant is spreading rapidly.
The measures were due to end on June 21st, but advisers said it'd be best to be cautious.
The news follows a study showing that the Delta variant first detected in India doubles the risk of hospitalization compared to the Alpha variant first seen in the UK.
CNN says the Delta variant is also spreading across the U.S.
Right now, the variant accounts for roughly one in ten cases.
