South Korea's unification ministry has approved a shipment of medical supplies to North Korea.
The ministry said Thursday that it approved three requests made by civilian groups to provide humanitarian aid to the regime.
They are the first since late July.
The ministry added that it will continue to approve such requests to help North Koreans at risk, including young children and pregnant women.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization also says it has started shipping COVID-19 medical supplies to North Korea.
The organization said in its report that the shipment was made via a Chinese port.
This raises the possibility that the regime might be easing its tight border controls that were first enforced when the COVID-19 pandemic began.
