This morning, South Korea and the U.S. held their annual Security Consultative Meeting in Seoul.
At the meeting, Defense Minister Suh Wook and his U.S. counterpart Lloyd Austin are likely to have addressed the issue of transferring wartime operational control from Washington to Seoul.
The two officials are expected to have discussed the timing of the full operational capability assessment, the second part of a three-phase program to verify if South Korea is ready to lead the allies' combined forces during wartime.
They are also expected to have addressed North Korean threats and other alliance issues.
Citing two unnamed U.S. senior defense officials, U.S. online news outlet Defense One reported that the two countries will announce this week that they will begin writing new plans to counter North Korea.
