South Korea has reported 4,72 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours.
There were 543 critical cases and 45 additional deaths.
Omicron is spreading at a rapid rate.
Health authorities say close to 27 percent of the infections were Omicron, more than double the previous week.
Authorities also project that Omicron will become the dominant strain by the weekend.
Officials on Monday evaluated South Korea and the Seoul region are now at a 'moderate risk' of COVID, with more ICU beds available and less pressure on the health care system.
