World News: Saudi crown prince in Turkey to normalize ties
Updated: 2022-06-23 05:48:08 KST
Let's take a look at what's going on in 'The World Now'.
Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, has traveled to Turkey for the first time in years to hold talks with Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The move comes as both sides try to normalize frayed relations, following the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Saudi Arabia's Istanbul consulate.
Following a summit between the leaders on Wednesday, a joint statement was issued highlighting cooperation in bilateral relations.
Restrictions on trade, flights, and TV programs were also lifted, alongside a halt on mutual negative media coverage.
This comes as Turkey is facing its worst economic crisis in years and Saudi Arabia is using its wealth to build alliances in the region.
