S. Korea reports 1,365 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday; stricter social distancing measures imposed outside capital region Updated: 2021-07-28 05:55:24 KST

South Korea reported 1,3-hundred-65 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday - staying in the 13-hundreds for a second straight day.
All but 89 of Tuesday's cases were locally transmitted, with around 60 percent of cases coming from the greater Seoul area.

Authorities have raised concerns over the spike in virus cases outside the capital,…especially with more people traveling around the country for the summer season.
Nearly 40-percent of new cases were found outside the greater Seoul area.
Health authorities raised social distancing measures to level three in most of these areas from Tuesday.
Under level three,…private gatherings of five or more people are banned.
Cafes and restaurants must switch to take out and delivery services after 10PM.
And night-time drinking is banned at parks and beaches.

Variant strains of the virus are also posing a major threat to the country's battle against the pandemic,… as the KDCA on Tuesday reported 1,4-hundred 12 new variant cases in a single week.
The Delta strain took up 88 percent of this week's new variant cases.

"The Delta variant has become a dominant variant in our country. And the best, ultimate method that has been globally proven, to tackle the spread of the variant is to comply with virus prevention measures, expand social distancing and vaccinate people."

On the vaccination front, more than 610-thousand received their first jab on Monday.
Most in their late fifties.
South Korea has now inoculated more than 34-percent of its total population with at least one jab.
