S. Korea reports 131,518 new COVID-19 cases as of 9PM Wed. Updated: 2022-08-11 09:04:14 KST

South Korea has reported 131,518 new COVID-19 cases as of 9PM Wednesday, exceeding the 100-thousand mark for the third consecutive day.

While there was a slight drop in infections from the day before, experts warn that the virus is spreading at a very fast pace.
They forecast over 200-thousand daily cases by late August, following the summer holiday season.
Against this backdrop, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters says they will bolster quarantine measures for infection-vulnerable facilities like nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
