South Korea has reported a total of 44 COVID-19-related deaths among children aged 18 or younger, with the majority unvaccinated and suffering underlying illnesses.
According to data released by the Central Disease Control Headquarters, the nation's first pediatric death was in November 2021.
Of these deaths, over 65 percent were aged nine or younger.

The news comes as the country reported 133-thousand 777 new COVID-19 cases as of 9PM Thursday, a drop of over 36-thousand from the day before.
Of the new cases, 45 percent were reported in the greater Seoul area.
