S. Korea reports 138,812 new COVID-19 cases on Friday Updated: 2022-08-19 17:08:00 KST

South Korea's new cases of COVID-19 today declined to under 140-thousand.
The number of deaths, however, rose to 83, the most since April, and the number of severe cases rose slightly to 4-hundred-92.
The Korean health authorities today released data on the number of COVID-related deaths among children as well.
They said 44 children have died since the start of the pandemic, slightly over half of whom had underlying illnesses.
South Korea began vaccinating children as young as five starting at the end of March since which time 13 children have died.
Of the children who were eligible for a vaccine, most had not been given one.
